Voice of Democracy & Patriots Pen
Both the Voice of Democracy (audio essay) and Patriots Pen (written essay) competitions offer young people the opportunity to reflect on the proud legacy of patriotism and appreciate the values for which veterans sacrificed so much.
Each year, the National VFW selects a theme for the contest. Post 3272 awards cash prizes to local winners, who then advance to compete at the district, state, and potentially national levels.
Buddy Poppies
Buddy Poppies are handmade by handicapped veterans, providing them a small income. Post 3272 purchases these poppies and offers them to the public while soliciting donations for needy comrades and veteran organizations.
Donations also support local charities in the Farmington Valley. Post 3272 donates in excess of $12,000 annually to local and veteran charities through this program — a general outreach effort for all veterans, not just VFW members.
Avon High School Scholarship
The VFW sponsors a scholarship for seniors of Avon High School who display the values and contributions that align with the mission of Avon VFW Post 3272.
This award recognizes students who embody the spirit of service, patriotism, and community — the same ideals that define the men and women who have served our nation.
